The Top Ten – Ten Years Of Thunder
This is Paul’s street and track credibility index, covering the top ten performance saloon cars in the ten year period between 1963 the start of the quick car revolution and 1973, the progression of this movement being slowed dramatically by the first fuel crisis. Prior to 1963, potent saloon cars were an oddity and if fast was the requirement, sports cars were the answer. By the end of this period, that norm had been turned upside down, a new generation of saloon cars emerged with Manufacturers competing both on the street and track. These were the most exciting years in the lives of petrolheads and mom’s Taxis quickly graduated to a 110Mph two door ‘econobox’ in late 1963, ending up being book-ended by a 145Mph coupe in 1973.
